SMS codes

SMS codes are used for securing Internet and telephone transactions at mBank. This is a state of the art, convenient and secure alternative to Transactional Access Numbers (TAN)

SMS codes are:

  • convenient (all you need is your mobile phone, you don't need to remember to carry your TAN numbers with you)
  • safe (the code can only be used once and can't be reused)
  • technically advanced (24h online service)
  • an alternative if you don't have your mobile phone with you or you are out of range (the mLinia automated telephone service)

Convenience
The SMS codes come straight to your mobile phone, when you are in the process of carrying out a transaction requiring authorization. The SMS code is 8 digits long and is provided via an SMS message from mBank that carries information about the transaction in process. You don't need to remember to carry your active TAN list with you, remember to order a sufficient number of lists and about activating a new list. The only thing you need is your mobile phone registered in the mBank transactional system.

You can uses SMS codes when abroad as well as long as you have your roaming active.

There is one more essential advantage to using SMS codes - you get to decide how you want to secure your mobile, whether it's blocking the pad, PIN authorization for unblocking or other. You know what type of safety measure works best for you - we don't impose the solution on you. It's your phone, your money and your mBank!

Safety

SMS codes differ from many other, similar at first glance, solutions:

  • The mBank transactional system generates the appropriate SMS codes online, taking into consideration all the data connected with the transaction in process. This way a customer can only confirm a transaction that he or she is in the process of carrying out. A change of account number, date of transaction, amount - all of these modifications require a new SMS code! This is how our solution is technologically superior to TAN lists or scratch card, tokens and other similar tools.
  • Prior to receiving the SMS code you receive a short description of the transaction in process. The information contains key information about the transaction and the safety of your funds. Remember to always read this SMS text message carefully and to make sure it refers to the correct transaction you wish to carry out.

A sample SMS text message:

Operacja nr 3 z dn. 15-12-2005 Przelew z rach.: ...01234567 na rach.: 1234...012345 kwota: 1000,00 PLN hasło: 12345678 mBank.

In this example the eight didgits are the last numbers of our account 01234567, the transaction in process is an undefined transfer of 1000 PLN to an account beginning with 1234, and ending with 12345. In this case the SMS code confirming this operation is 12345678.

Technically advanced solutions

Technologically superior solutions have always been an important issue at mBank. We have set the pace and standards for Internet banking in Poland. SMS codes are yet another example. Our solution ensures complete synchronicity of operations in process with the sent SMS code. The codes are generated online and immediately sent to the customer. The mBank system operates 24 hours a day, non stop without intervals for "midnight calculations".

Two traditionally opposing elements: convenience and safety are put into effect in SMS codes. The mBank mission ensuring convenience and maximum benefits to customers was the reason why SMS codes and TAN lists are offered free of charge.

Problems with your mobile phone? You are out of range?

You may forget to take your mobile phone at times or you battery dies out on you. At other times, although you have taken every precaution, the gsm network operator delivers SMS text messages with a certain delay (this happens at peak periods such as holidays). SMS codes have three levels of safety:

  • Transactions set at an earlier date can be confirmed on the transactional Internet pages. In order to do so you need to choose the 'Operacje do potwierdzenia' option. These operations are confirmed with an SMS code at the moment most convenient for you (once you've picked up the delayed SMS text message, have recharged your battery, find your phone at home).
  • An SMS code can be sent a second time. The option of having the same SMS code sent a second time is available in the transactional system, upon choosing the 'Operacje do potwierdzenia' option.
  • You can also confirm your transaction in the mLinia automated telephone service (IVR). Once you have reached mBank choose '2' and follow the instructions on the recording.

Remember: in order to take advantage of this option you need to have the automated telephone service active and your telekod at hand.
